General Congregation 36 of the Society of Jesus is about to begin in Rome. This meeting, due to last several weeks, will, while in session, be the supreme governing body of the Society. The Congregation will elect a new Superior General - the latest successor to St Ignatius - and discuss requests from Jesuit Provinces around the world, in order to determine their priorities and direction for the time ahead.
