We pray for all those who died aboard Flight MH17, and for their families and friends, who mourn their loss. And we pray, too, for the politicians and diplomats at the centre of this new crisis, that peace and good sense may prevail over violence and discord.
We send special prayer and sympathy to the Society of the Sacred Heart, as they mourn the death of one of their sisters who was a passenger on this flight. Sr Philomene (Phil) Tiernan RSCJ had come over from Australia to Ireland and England on a sabbatical. She then travelled to France, where she made her retreat at the birthplace of the congregation's foundress, before boarding the flight.
